1. Read the recipe first and make sure you have all the ingredients you need before starting.  Make sure you read the ingredients list and ALL the instructions from beginning to end.
  2. Leave the ingredients out from the refrigerator about an hour before baking.  It will take longer time to bake and might end up under-baking the cake if starting out with cold ingredients instead of room temperature ingredients.
  3. Make sure the ingredients are fresh, particularly the leavening agents such as yeast, baking powder or baking soda.
